2004 Yoga Calendar by Salt Spring Island Organic Productions

The images for this project were shot entirely on Salt Spring Island from May 2003 through September 2003.  No special effects were used and all non-professional models posed for each month.

The people involved in this production all live and work on picturesque Salt Spring Island near the coast of Vancouver B.C. The exquisite, varied landscapes of the island are matched by the diversity of its population.

Our models include a hairdresser, a taxi driver, a construction worker, a dance teacher, an entrepreneur, and a PhD candidate. They all have two very important things in common: they make their living on Salt Spring and they are devoted to the practice of yoga.

Photographing these models outdoors allowed the portrayal of the union of each aspect of our material existence - internal and external, personal and environmental - working together to lift the veil of illusion of this material existence, enabling a transcendence to the realization of ultimate reality.

The locations for each photograph were chosen to compliment the spirit and nature of the asana for that month and are meant to encourage fellow practitioners of yoga to continue on the pathways that yoga opens through its practice.

YOGA SALT SPRING ISLAND, CALENDAR 2004 is the creative collaboration of Michael Levy and Rick Abramyk, partners in Salt Spring Island Organic Productions.
