The Arbutus: inexorably tied to the Gulf Islands by association...difficult to imagine one without the other. These trees go through many different phases throughout the year and never cease to astonish visitors with their garish displays of colour during their annual "peel" sessions. A truly sensuous tree, the Arbutus is the subject of many local artisans work and will continue to be one of my favourite subjects for the foreseeable future...
Nature is quite intriguing, to say the least...forms present themselves to our vision, forms reminiscent of the human body. What we see represented in the natural environment is often an echo of the human form...a breathtaking display for all to see. The more time that I spend in the natural environment, the more I appreciate the subtle reflections of mankind in nature.
